VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE (AND LOVE)
The flowers you choose for your wedding show off your personality. Exuberant or reserved, flowers say it all. And as they’re one of the focal points of the special event, flowers are being used in many new and creative ways which reveal and reflect the couple’s individuality.
Here are a few of the colourful trends that have been seen at stylish weddings across the country.
No-one seems to be afraid of colour – and lots of it. The traditional white and pale pastels of antique roses and gypsophila are being swept aside in a riot of colour including gerbera daisies in vivid reds and oranges and roses in shades that would normally only be found in the candy jar. We’re seeing more and more interesting colour combinations such as pink and yellow, orange and purple, purple and red, lime green and bright yellow and red and orange.
Schemes that only use one colour of flower (monochromatic) look glamorous while monobotanic arrangements (using only one type of flower) look sophisticated and dramatic. For a fresh and warm summer wedding, brides have been using bright cerise pinks combined with vivid lime green foliage and flowers. For winter warmth, brides have gone for earthy tones like orange, yellow and ivory.
Unusual shapes are also all the rage at today’s nuptials, according to a leading florist in Perth, Airport Florist. Cascading green ivy and white or cream roses will be perennially popular but many brides are choosing eye-catching, asymmetrical arrangements over the traditional compact posy. There’s also a trend towards very loose, informal and unstructured arrangements.
Containers are another talking point. Traditional containers are making way for unusual and interesting vases such as gilded urns, silver tumblers and goblets, mosaic vase, asymmetrical vases, conical, square and rectangular vases, baskets, shallow containers, mirrored containers and urns. For a dramatic effect that relies on simplicity and quality of the flower, florists are also using rows of identical containers, often with a single, perfect bloom. Placing vases of various heights and sizes can also add interest. A word of caution though – it’s important to make sure that arrangements don’t prevent conversation. However gorgeous, if they are too big or too high, guests won’t be able to navigate around them and they’ll end up being an unfavourable talking point which is NOT the intention!
Brides are also being very creative when it comes to accessorizing and lighting the flowers. Candles are being used creatively to add romance and mood to the occasion. Float candles in shallow containers or hang them from delicate threads from spikes or branches in the centrepiece. Branches can also be sprayed with silver or gold spraypaint to create a sophisticated theme. By wiring small votive or tealight candles into the arrangements, one can create a magical, ethereal mood. Tall pillar candles of varying heights can also be clustered together on a table, surrounded by flowers, to create a sparkling wonderland. Bold brides are also accessorizing with other items such as ribbon, feathers, mirrors, lace, faux crystals, gems and bling and even fruit and vegetables to create their own individual style.
It’s all about demonstrating individuality with different flowers, colours, heights, shapes and containers. The old adage that variety is the spice of life rings true for weddings as well says Perth online florist, with creative flowers spicing up the nuptials too!
